It's today, right? Well, it is in our house. Last night we came to the realization that not all of the children would be here on Father's Day (the official one, that is), so we decided to celebrate today. The C.F.O. had the day off anyway.
With only a couple of hours to prepare, we had to hustle to get is surprises ready. Fortunately, we picked up a present a few weeks ago. Now, when it comes to Father's Day gifts, I tend to gravitate toward the tacky. A brass grasshopper and a certain Veggie Tales tie come to mind. Before you chastise me, let us remember that this is the man who encouraged his children to draw slugs for me on Mother's Day. If that's not tacky, I don't know what is.
Anyway, we found the perfect gift for him at the crafts fair where the Butterfly & Co. had their booth. I give you "Fried Chicken"...
Southern Yard Art at its finest.
Let me explain to you why this monstrosity is the perfect gift. It's all about the symbolism. See the tail? Three twizzles for three children. See the Fleur de Lis? The C.F.O is of Acadian (Cajun) extraction. See the glasses? They're self explanatory. Now, about the frying pan... this has a couple of different meanings. First, The C.F.O. has a treasured collection of cast iron pots. Don't ask. Second, it's what I really wanted to use on him when I woke up and saw a "Pin the Tail on the Slug" game year before last on Mother's Day.
This piece of outstanding workmanship was lovingly christened "Fried Chicken" by it's maker. Granted, it's no Bob the Tomato, but I'm sure The C.F.O. will treasure it always. How could he not?
Happy Father's Day, y'all.
It even sort of bears a resemblance....
