Standardized Testing: Cheap Entertainment

If you've never experienced it, I highly recommend watching third graders take standardized tests. The facial expressions alone are worth the price of admission!

Sixth graders, on the other hand...(can I get an eye roll?)

My kids have no idea how invested the state is in standardized testing. We have to take one every year, and I use the CAT. The kids think it's fun to color in the circles, and then they look for patterns in the answer page when they're done, like it's a Rorschach. My dd once asked if she could change some answers because she wanted her page to look like a picture- probably a flower or something.

Fortunately, our state does not mandate standardized testing. I test the kiddos just so that they acquire the "fill-in-the-circle-with-a-number-two-pencil" skill, which (let's face it) is an important skill to have if you want to go to college.

Aussie Kim (my testing partner in crime) has used the results to get her children into fun extracurricular activities. I think she has info up about it on homeschoolersavvy.typepad.com.

haha I will need to watch some time
