Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho

Unemployment hit nine percent, and I spazzed. "Three kids, one income. Seriously?" I thought.

So, I got a job.

But, I ask ya, what kind of job will allow a girl to be home and homeschool her kiddos? My options are limited.

Drum roll, please...I'm waiting tables. I feel so collegiate again.

When my mother pointed out, very politely, that I already have not one, but TWO college degrees, I listed the pros of the situation...

No prep time. You go to work. You come home. End of story.
Evening shift. Homeschool in the day. Work at night.
Walking eight bajillion miles a day HAS to be better for me than sitting on my keister.

Can I get an Amen?

Okay, I hate it. But, and this is a big BUT, I've almost made enough to pay for school books. My goal is to get birthdays (3 every fall) and Christmas paid for. If I can avoid raiding the treasury for those big ticket items it will be worth it.

That's all the commitment this gig is getting from me.

Waiting tables. What was I thinking? My arches are way too old for this.

Nothing to be ashamed about doing honest work to bring in a little bit of extra money. The split shift is tough on a marriage though. A friend of mine works nights as a police dispatcher and she only sees her husband (a beat cop) on Sundays.

Yeah, it's tough on the laundry, too. It isn't getting done! :) I'm only working a couple of shifts a week. Ignore my whining. It's not that bad!

I've been cleaning houses on the weekend for a couple years now. I decided to think of it as getting paid to exercise. Although I'm not sure it's helped much. :P
