But You've Gotta Ask!

Years ago, in the midst of a financial/ medical crises, I prayed. "We need $1800.00, God. And we need it now." My husband came home that evening with a check. It was a commission check (he was in sales) that had arrived earlier than expected and was slightly larger than we thought it would be. It was for $1800.00.

Last week the washer broke. Saturday the van started spewing radiator fluid. The windshield needs to be replaced. I need to buy school books...

"God,..." He must be tired of this, I thought.

Sunday night a friend volunteered to fix the van. Another friend fixed the washer for $25 for the parts and a pint of homemade strawberry jam. I'm not sure where the rest is coming from yet, but I'm sure it's coming. Sometimes he sends a check. Sometimes he sends an angel. The one thing I've learned is that he always sends. But...

Random Links and Family Tidbits

*We're taking Greek lessons! I'll have a post up on it soon at Homeschooler Savvy.

*Tenure makes bad teachers hard to fire. Now there's a revelation.

*I made pepper jelly, and oh, is it good. I dropped a jar of hot pepper jelly on the kitchen floor. Bad side - The mess. Good side - the kitchen smells great.

*Here's a list of summer games. I don't care what the title of the list says, they're not just for kids.

*Salamander was called out last night for Order of the Arrow. We're very proud. He's taller than I am. He's starting highschool. I'm old. It's hard.

WFMW: Need Material Organization Ideas

I'm a bit out of the loop on the whole Works For Me Wednesday thing. Three scout camps and a vacation in one month will do that to you. In any case, I need help. So, I'm ditching the whole theme thing and begging for your assistance.

Butterfly came back from the Grandparents with a sewing machine. THEY BOUGHT HER A SEWING MACHINE! One of her very own! She's over the moon. The problem is not with the machine. It's great. However, my mother also sent her home with this...

HUMONGOUS pile of material. We appreciate the material, but helpful storage ideas are needed!

We need to get this stuff organized. Help. Please. Thanks.

He's a Serial Crier

Tiger wasn't happy about that thing, oh, what's it called? Yeah, that's it...BED TIME! And he let us know it in no uncertain terms.

The C.F.O. and I were sitting in the living room, callously ignoring his pitiful wails, when he suddenly appeared in the hallway.

"WAH!" he cried. Then he disappeared.

"What was that?"

"Drive-by crying," I told The C.F.O. I know that boy's M.O.

"WAH!" bellowed Tiger, as he popped into the hall again.

"Repeat offender," I said.

Tomorrow may bring a little time in the brig.

He's too young for this life of crime.

My Baby, She Wrote Me a Letter

Mail Call! A letter came today from Butterfly. She's having a wonderful time, and I don't think she's quite as lonesome as her mother! It was wonderful to hear from her.

Aussie Kim sent the girls rocks with funny messages on them. Rocks. Well, why not? When Butterfly gets back I'll show hers to you. Two days!

She's All That...

Scratchy-Cat!!!

No autographs

Hey there, Scratchy. How do you think your debut on Home School Talk went today?

"How did you get in here?"No comment

I thought it went well. How about you?

"I have no comment at this time."

I especially liked the audio recordings of you meowing. Weren't they great?

"Get that camera out of my face."

It's a shame it only lasted an hour!

"She pushed me! I was pushed! Did you see that? SECURITY!"

Thinks she's the cat's meow, doesn't she? What a Diva!

Butterfly Goes to Camp

Aussie Kim and I dropped our girls off at camp today. Homesickness has set in, and I miss my girl dreadfully. (Whether or not she misses me is another question entirely.)

The camp was beautiful. I was quite envious of our girls.

Camp trees

However, just once I'd like to live up to homeschool expectations and leave her locked in the closet! Six more days...!

Woe is He

So my mother decides Salamander needs new pants. As he is growing an inch a day (he's fourteen, it happens), I can hardly argue. I tell him we're going shopping, and I get the face.

"Why?"

"I hate shopping," he says.

"You'd rather go naked," I ask?

He considers.

If only I had his problems...

Has Anyone Seen Tiger's Water Shoes?

I bought them a month ago in a futile attempt at organization. I was determined that I would not procrastinate in regards to getting ready for camp, and this is my reward. It's really gonna chap me if I have to go back to Wal-Mart to spend another $4.88. That's a gallon of gas!

In any case, he's off to camp tomorrow. Or rather, we are off to camp tomorrow. Just me, Sal and Tiger  - together with 50,000 of our favorite ticks. Ew! Pass the Repel.

I have one more place to look, and then I guess it's off to Wal-Mart. Next time, I'm just gonna procrastinate. It seems to work for me.
